Ever since I got my first iPhone about 10 years ago, I’ve been a bit of an Apple fanatic. Apple products are just so user friendly, and once you have one, you can easily understand how a new product works as the interfaces are so similar.
The Apple Watch is so much more than just a watch – it really is the perfect iPhone accessory and, if you’re a busy, tech-loving, fitness-focused woman like I am, then you’ll absolutely love the Apple Watch, too.
The Apple Watch For Women – 5 Reasons It’s A Must-Have Accessory
1) It Allows You to Go Hands Free
If you’re a busy person, you can attest that sometimes it feels like you need two extra sets of hands. I constantly find myself trying to juggle so many things at once! So when I hear the text notification ping on my iPhone and know that it’s floating around the house somewhere, I shudder at the thought of getting up to look for it.
The Apple Watch solves that problem by delivering text messages straight to your wrist, along with weather forecasts, calendar updates and whatever else you set it up to feature.
And the Series 3 Apple watch comes with cellular data so you can make phone calls, use GPS and get messages. You can totally ditch your smart phone if you want to! Perfect for hiking and other activities where you don’t want to lug around a phone.
And to make it even more hands free and convenient, pair it with these Apple AirPods – I am in love with mine. It’s totally a game changer, especially if you’re on the phone a lot.
2) It’s Completely Customizable
I love how the Apple Watch gives me the ability to easily change the watch face display. Sometimes I want to have everything from weather forecasts to stock updates displayed. Other times I just want to see pretty pictures.
The Apple Watch makes it incredibly simple to customize and change up the display to match your current requirements.
3) It Encourages Mindfulness
The Apple Watch comes pre-loaded with a number of apps, but my favorite is the “Breathe” app. I believe in the importance of practicing mindfulness and bringing attention to our breath (a term you will be familiar with if you practice yoga.)
The Breathe app on the Apple Watch is set to prompt you to begin a breathing session every five hours (but you can start a session whenever you like.) Through a series of gentle vibrations and a calming circular shaped graphic, the Breathe app guides you through a series of deep breathing while tracking your heart rate.
You can set your Breathe session for one minute or five minutes. I try to get in at least 3 or 4 five minute Breathe sessions every day. It’s perfect to use when doing these breathing exercises for anxiety.
4) It Allows Safer Driving
I love the map feature on my iPhone but I’m very mindful of driving safety, and constantly looking down at the map on my iPhone screen just seems very unsafe. A great feature of the Apple Watch is that it syncs with the maps on your iPhone and the directions appear on the watch face. Additionally, it gives a small vibration and a clicking sound when a turn is coming up.
I find this to be a lot safer than constantly looking down at my iPhone screen or even at a GPS screen.
5) It Encourages You to Stay Active
In addition the Breathe app, the Apple Watch also comes preloaded with an activity tracker. The activity tracker keeps a record of your calories burned, minutes of brisk activity, and how many minutes you’ve stood up and moved per hour.
You can change your calorie goal manually, and you can also share your activity goals and accomplishments with friends, which helps to increase accountability and motivation.
It also warns you about an unusually high or low heart rate and can screen for arrhythmias…how awesome is that?
Often it can be difficult to figure out how to find time to workout, especially when you’re pulled in a million different directions, so the activity tracker gives a nice little boost of motivation.
However, when using the cellular data, the battery has been known to drain much more quickly, so take that into consideration when buying.

Apple Watch Series 3 vs Series 5
Since writing this post, the Series 5 Apple watch has been released.
The Apple Watch Series 5 is obviously more expensive than the Series 3. You’re looking at over $400 for the base model Series 5, whereas you can get a reburbished Series 3 Apple Watch for as low as $165.
If price is a factor, the Series 3 Apple watch is definitely the way to go. You’re still getting a really good smart watch with almost all of the same features without having to shell out a ton of cash.
Series 5 Apple watch has the always on retina display, which is convenient, as well as a larger screen. However, the Series 3 has a smaller band, which is perfect for women with small wrists (like me!).
But if those things aren’t that important to you, the Series 3 Apple watch for women is less than half the price for almost the same functionality.
