These adorable DIY snowman ornaments are perfect for kids to make at Christmas and look great on all kinds of Christmas trees! Perfectly easy DIY Christmas ornaments!

Snowman ornament for kids to make this Christmas

Christmas is the most magical time of year to me. I love everything about the season from the songs, the decorations, the slacking off at work (ok I made that last one up but who’s with me?).

There is just something about Christmas that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, even when it’s cold and cloudy outside. Well mostly.

Sometimes I do suffer from a bit of SAD (seasonal affective disorder – I call it winter depression), but a little holiday self care helps to keep me feeling good.

Back to the ornaments though…these DIY snowman ornaments have a rustic look to them which I love. They’re also inexpensive and ultra easy to make (and did I mention how cute they are?)

Not only do they look so cute on the tree, they make great gifts too (along with these other DIY Christmas gift ideas). And while you’re at it, you might want to try these DIY reindeer ornaments and DIY Santa ornaments!

DIY Snowman Ornaments

You only need some very basic supplies to make these jute snowman ornaments, which can be found at Hobby Lobby, Walmart or Amazon (I’ve linked to some good Amazon options if you prefer to shop online like I do.)

Note – if you only have one size of mason jar lid rings, then that’s fine. That’s the beauty of DIY crafts – you can make them your own! Just use what you have 🙂

Required Supplies

  • Two large mason jar lid rings
  • Jute twine
  • Plaid ribbon
  • Hot glue gun (<<<this mini one is perfect for these snowman ornaments – pus you can use it for other DIY crafts!)

Step by Step Instructions

  • Step 1: Glue one end of the jute twine to the inside of the mason jar lid ring.
  • Step 2: Wrap the twine around the ring until it is completely covered. Repeat the process on the remaining lid rings.
  • Step 3: Create a loop with a small piece of twine. Glue the loop to the back of each of the small lid rings.

  • Step 4: Glue the small ring to the top of the large ring.

  • Step 5: Cut a piece of plaid ribbon (or any color you’d like) and tie it around the center of the snowman where the two rings are attached. Cut the ribbon to the desired length.
  • Step 6: Fold one end of the ribbon over the top of the knot and secure it in place with a drop of glue.

That’s it! Isn’t that easy and so cute? These would also make adorable place holders for Christmas dinner that everyone could take home at the end of the day – just add a little Christmas tag with each person’s name written on it in gold ink.

Variations to Snowman Ornaments

  • Use any color ribbon in place of the plaid ribbon for a festive design – try gold or sparkling white for a more sophisticated design;
  • Use spray paint or different colored jute for the snowman body. It can be fun to spray with a clear glittery paint to make your ornaments sparkle.
