Wondering how to save money on meat? Meat can take up a huge chunk of your grocery budget! Read on to find out how you can save a ton of money buying your meat online, and in bulk.
When it comes to groceries, meat usually takes up a large proportion of the overall budget. There’s no getting around it – meat is usually expensive. A good cost-saving strategy is to include a few meat-free meals in your weekly menu and when you do buy meat, buy bulk meat and freeze it.
Recently, I started doing some of my grocery shopping online. I love the convenience factor and the prices are comparable to (and in a lot of cases, actually better then) what you’d find in the grocery store.
With meat being such a large expense, a lot of people want to know where is the cheapest place to buy bulk meat online.
I’ve done the research and scoped out three excellent options for buying meat online. I’ve got the cheapest option for buying meat online, a mid-range option for people who want organic, free-range meat at a reasonable price, and then a more premium option that is still cheaper than a lot of comparable grocery store or butcher options.
The Cheapest Place To Buy Meat Online
The cheapest place to buy meat online is from Shipt. Shipt has partnered with various bricks and mortar grocery stores around the United States, like the ones seen below (this is based on my location, yours may be slightly different.)
You can receive delivery as soon as an hour after placing your order, or schedule it for later in the week.
Meat Prices on Shipt
Prices my vary based on your location, but because Shipt has partnered with companies like Costco, Publix, Target, H-E-B etc., you can expect to find the same low prices you’d find in store.
One of the additional benefits of shopping with Shipt is that they sell more than just meat, so you can do your entire grocery shopping all on the same site.
How Much Does Shipt Charge for Delivery?
Shipt costs $99/year for unlimited grocery delivery, with no delivery fee if your order totals $35 or more.
There is also an exclusive Shipt app that offers customers special deals and coupons.
Where to Buy Organic Meat Online for Cheap
If you’re after organic, free-range and/or grass-fed meat, then I’m sure you’re already aware that it’s going to cost you a bit more money.
The good news is that when you buy meat online, it doesn’t have to be a LOT more expensive to buy organic.
Thrive Market is my top pick for organic and/or free-range meat online. As you can see from the screenshot below, they have a good range of premium meats to choose from, including 100% grass-fed beef, organic chicken, pasture raised pork, sustainable seafood and more.
Thrive Market sells their meat in premium boxes, with a large variety of options to choose from. As you can see from the screenshot below, the prices are very reasonable for organic and grass-fed meat.

Online Meat Subscription Box
Recently, I was introduced to a company called Butcher Box.
Butcher Box is a company that specializes in selling 100% grass-fed, free-range and organic meat, completely online. Essentially, they’re like the neighborhood butcher that sells premium meat except he does it only via subscription box.
This is how it works Butcher Box works:
1) Go to the Butcher Box website.
2) Choose your box. You can choose between a mixed box of beef, pork and chicken (which is the most popular,) beef and pork, beef and chicken, all beef, or your own custom box.
3) Choose how much meat you need (the more you buy, the cheaper it is.)
4) Choose any optional add-ons (things like bacon, hamburger, breakfast sausage.)
5) Enter your shipping details, and voila!
Shipping is completely free and your meat will be delivered cold and fresh in an insulated box, straight to your front door.
How much cheaper is Butcher Box compared to grocery stores?
I compared the cost of Butcher Box to what you’d typically pay at somewhere like Costco.
For a 12-pack of 10oz Organic, Grass-fed rib-eye steaks from Costco, the cost is $144.99.
In comparison, for an “All Beef” box of Organic, Grass-fed beef from Butcher Box, you’ll pay $129 for 24 meals or $238 for 48 meals.

Here’s is the lowdown on Butcher Box meat:
