I’ve been blogging here at The Million Dollar Mama for almost 4 months now so I’m definitely still considered a newbie blogger. Years ago I had a Tumblr blog but things have definitely changed since then! What used to be popular has gone the way of the Dodo (hello, Myspace? Are you still there?) and there always seems to be a new kid arriving on the scene. Likewise, blogging strategies that may have worked a couple of years ago probably don’t work quite as well now. So even though I wasn’t new to the world of writing online, I was definitely a newbie when it comes to blogging in 2016. I’m a bit of a knowledge junkie, so when I decided to take the plunge and start this blog, I enrolled in a number of online courses for bloggers.
Although I’m still a relatively new blogger, I have experienced some exciting success with this blog. I’ve already made some supplemental income, and I am excited to see what the future holds. But I’m not taking all of the credit for this – I’ve learned from the people who went before me!
If you’ve recently started a blog, or you’re considering starting one (you totally should!) then you might find yourself floundering. There is a TON to learn about blogging – from how to come up with blog post ideas, how to create awesome content, where to find great stock images, how to design perfect pins, how to best utilize social media, how to drive traffic to your blog, how to properly use affiliate links, how to start making money from your blog – it makes your head spin!
This is where online courses come in!
There are lots of bloggers who are killing it online, and as such, they’ve created their own online courses for bloggers where they will teach you their secrets. Awesome, right?
So what courses do I recommend for newbie bloggers?
First things first. If you’re intending to make money from your blog, then you need to view your blog as a business, not merely a hobby.
And when you have a business, you invest in it.
That means time-wise, but it also means financially.
So far, every dollar that I have made from this blog, I have invested back into the blog, mainly in education.
I’ve taken a number of blogging courses, and I 100% would only recommend the ones that I truly felt were beneficial and worth the money.
Best “All Round” Blog Course
If you only take one blog course, it should be Elite Blog Academy.
Ruth Soukup is the creator of Elite Blog Academy, and she’s also the owner of Living Well, Spending Less, which is one of the most popular blogs on the internet. What started as a way for Ruth to share her journey, has now turned into a 7 figure business.
Ruth created Elite Blog Academy to teach bloggers her secrets to success, and she hasn’t held back on anything. The course is the most in-depth blogging course I have ever taken (and I haven’t even finished it yet.)
I’m not going to lie – the course is expensive. (Like, $499 expensive.)
Is Elite Blog Academy worth the money?
Like I said, I haven’t even finished the course yet and I already think it’s absolutely worth the money.
Elite Blog Academy only opens once per year in February, and it has limited enrollment, so you really want to make sure you’re on the waiting list so you don’t miss out.
Join the waiting list here and you’ll also get a free copy of Ruth’s book “How to drastically increase your blog income overnight.”
Best Foundational Blog Course
If you’re just getting started with your blog (or you’re about to start) then Building a Framework by Abby Lawson is a great foundational course.
Building a Framework will teach you from scratch how to start a blog. It covers everything from choosing a blogging platform and theme, to building relationships, conquering social media, working with brands, and the legal side of setting up a small business.
While a lot of the information contained in this course can be found online, you’ll save a ton of time and energy by having access to everything all in one place and not having to search all over (plus, how do you know what to look for if you don’t know what to look for!)
Best Affiliate Marketing Course
One of the best ways to make money from your blog (actually, it’s almost essential) is through affiliate marketing.
And if you’re going to take a course on affiliate marketing, you probably want to take it from someone who is a highly successful affiliate marketer, right?
Maybe a blogger who makes $100k a month from her blog, the majority of that through affiliate marketing?
Enter “Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing” by Michelle Schroeder-Gardner from Making Sense of Cents.
(I actually interviewed Michelle and she shared some great tips and advice – you can read the interview here.)
Because Michelle has been so successful in affiliate marketing, she created her own online course. In the course, she teaches step-by-step how to create a successful affiliate marketing plan. (Hint – it’s more than just slapping up a few affiliate links.)
I took the course and I went from $0 in affiliate income to receiving my first affiliate sale a couple of days later (through Amazon Associates.)
The course also includes some bonus material, with the most awesome being the Pinterest Strategy Guide that Rosemarie from Busy Budgeter created. (Rosemarie is an absolute Pinterest whiz – I’m a huge fan of her and her blog, so when I found out that she had created a Pinterest guide for the course, that was the final thing that sold me!)
Best Pinterest Course
In case you haven’t heard the news, one of the best ways to drive massive traffic to your blog is through Pinterest. But mastering Pinterest is more than just pinning pretty images here and there.
There are a ton of Pinterest courses out there. I took Pinfinite Growth and my pin impressions (i.e.the views pins from your website get on Pinterest) grew by over 5890% in about 2 months.
The course is good, but it’s also pretty expensive ($347.)
Honestly, if you’re going to spend that much money on a blogging course I would probably just try to save the extra $150 and enroll in Elite Blog Academy.
Also, Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing includes an awesome Pinterest strategy guide from Busy Budgeter, so that’s another option.
Best eBook for Bloggers
I love reading – I basically devour books and it was impossible for me to choose just one, so I’m declaring a tie.
The best two eBooks for bloggers are:
This is the book that convinced me to enroll in Elite Blog Academy. How to Blog for Profit Without Selling Your Soul is written by Ruth Soukup and it is JAM PACKED with information. Seriously. Ruth is like a blogging genius and once you’ve read this book, you’ll agree with me.
Lena from What Mommy Does wrote this great eBook sharing exactly how she drastically increased her page views. The path she took was quite different to a lot of other bloggers, and that’s exactly the reason why I loved this book so much. Lena outlines exactly what worked for her and what didn’t work, and her perspective is really interesting.
This list of the best blogging courses for newbie bloggers is based on my own personal experience. I’ve enrolled in all of these courses and read both of the eBooks.
I honestly think that if you were to enroll in just one blogging course, it should be Elite Blog Academy.
However, it can definitely be cost-prohibitive.
Get on the waitlist, read the free eBook and you might be making enough money from your blog by the time enrollment opens to afford it 🙂
