New Year’s Resolutions – how to simplify your New Year’s goals and become healthier, wealthier, and wiser.
Happy New Year! I can’t believe it’s 2017 – in some ways, it feels like just yesterday we were all rejoicing that the world hadn’t come to an end on December 31st, 1999. But here we are, still kickin’ in 2017 – who’da thunk it?
I’m writing this from my hotel room. We’ve officially packed our entire household into a Uhaul and we’re staying here until we set off to North Carolina. Packing everything was a HUGE task and despite us having a big, successful yard sale a few months ago, we seemed to have so much “stuff”. I’m not talking about the normal necessities like silverware, towels, sheets, etc. I mean random junk that we’ve somehow just accumulated over the past 5 years.
For the past week, I’ve been sorting through all of our possessions while brainstorming my New Year’s goals. We’re moving into a substantially smaller house in North Carolina so that, combined with the fact that owning so much stuff that I don’t really need makes me feel anxious and overwhelmed, has inspired me to “simplify” in 2017. I’m not only planning to simplify my life by getting rid of a lot of things we don’t need, but I’m also simplifying my New Year’s goals.
While it’s important to set specific goals, sometimes we get so bogged down with the minute details that we fail to see the bigger picture.
It’s important to plan, but it’s more important to START.
That’s why I’ve simplified my New Year’s Goals into the following statement:
“In 2017 I want to become healthier, wealthier, and wiser.”
Once I had my 2017 mission statement set, I spent some time working out how I was going to achieve each portion of my mission statement. Here’s what I came up with.
I’m just over 8 months post-partum right now and while I actually weigh a bit less than I did before I was pregnant, I’m definitely not as healthy as I used to be. I would love to completely transform my health, fitness, and physique so I’ve signed up for the Bodybuilding.com #250kChallenge. If you’re doing the challenge too, let me know!
As for the nutrition side of things, one of my biggest problems in the past has been trying to come up with a varied meal plan so we’re not eating the same few meals on a constant rotation. Sound familiar? If so, you’ll love $5 meal plan. For just $5 a month you’ll get a meal plan delivered straight to your inbox and most meals can be made for around $2 a person. You can find out more about $5 meal plan here.
In 2017 I’m planning to become wealthier in a number of ways:
*Increase my blog income
*Further diversify my investment portfolio. I’ve been with Betterment for about a year now and I love the service. I’d like to look further into REIT’s and Motif Investing.
*Increase my side hustle income. My favorite ways to make extra money are currently Ibotta, Online Surveys, and Ebates. I’d like to find some more survey sites that pay well and look into starting another side hustle!
As I mentioned, Ibotta is one of my favorite ways to make extra money. It’s one of the best cash back apps that I know of and I honestly recommend it to everyone I know. If you buy groceries then you absolutely need to join Ibotta otherwise you’re basically throwing away money. Here’s the link to join for free – you’ll get a bonus $10 once you redeem your first rebate.
Ebates is the online shopping equivalent of Ibotta. It’s super easy to use – just sign up for a free Ebates account (and get a bonus $10) then whenever you shop online, just go to Ebates first, find the store you want to shop at and click on the link. You’ll be taken directly to their website and Ebates will give you a percentage of your purchase total back. Here’s the link to join.
I absolutely love learning and I’d probably be a perpetual student if degrees were free. But alas, it’s not. I’m not planning to start a Masters degree in 2017 but I am planning to become wiser.
I am going to be upping my blogging knowledge immensely this year because I’ve enrolled in Elite Blog Academy 3.0 which starts in February and I also own the Ultimate Bundle Blogger’s Toolkit which I’ve barely scratched the surface of.
I’m also planning to increase the number of books I read in 2017. I read a lot online but there’s just something so relaxing about curling up and reading a real book. I’ve heard a lot of good things about “I Will Teach You To Be Rich” so that’s pretty high on my list. If you have any good recommendations, holler at me.
Do you think you’ll be simplifying your New Year’s Goals in a similar way? What steps are you going to be taking to achieve your goals this year? Let me know!
