Ever since I got my first Macbook Pro about 10 years ago, I’ve been a bit of an Apple fanatic. Case in point – between my husband, myself, and my one-year-old, we have two Macbooks, two iPhones, one iPad, and two iPods. Safe to say that when it comes to technology, Apple wins out over here!
So when the Apple Watch was first released, I found myself devouring as many Apple Watch reviews as I could find. But after reading some of the problems people were having with the first release, I wasn’t convinced. I decide to hold out for the next release.
On a recent trip to New York City, I couldn’t pass up a visit to the (absolutely packed) Apple Store in Times Square to check out the Apple Watches in person. I fell in love with the Rose Gold Series 1, but left empty handed because I knew I could find it cheaper online (and I did, right here!)
I decided to get the Series 1 over the Series 2 because according the Apple Store I visited, the only real difference between the two is that the Series 2 is waterproof (the Series 1 is water resistant,) it has a slightly brighter display, and it has a built-in GPS for run tracking.
I compared the two side-by-side and I could barely notice a difference in the screen brightness. And given that I don’t plan to swim with my watch on, I didn’t think it was worth spending an extra $100 just for the in-built GPS.
I ended up saving $100 and ordering the Series 1. It’s even cheaper if you order from Amazon (here’s the direct link to the one I got), and they offer free shipping. Also, if you don’t like the band it comes with, there are a huge variety of Apple watch bands you can change it out for.
I’ve now had my Rose Gold Series 1 Apple Watch for about a month, and I absolutely love it. It’s one of the best purchases I’ve made recently, and besides the fact that I just love how it looks, the Apple Watch has honestly improved my life.

The Apple Watch For Women – 5 Reasons It’s A Must-Have Accessory
1) It allows you to go hands free
If you’re a mom, you can attest that sometimes it feels like you need two extra sets of hands. I constantly find myself trying to juggle sippy cups, car keys, stuffed toys, a diaper bag, pacifiers, etc. So when I hear the text notification ping on my iPhone and know that it’s floating around the bottom of my bag somewhere, I shudder at the thought of how I’m going to manage fishing it out.
The Apple Watch solves that problem by delivering text messages straight to your wrist, along with weather forecasts, calendar updates and whatever else you set it up to feature.
2) It’s completely customizable
I love how the Apple Watch gives me the ability to easily change the watch face display. Sometimes I want to have everything from weather forecasts to stock updates displayed. Other times I just want to see Mickey Mouse tapping his foot (yes, I’ll admit it. I’m a closet Disney fan.)
The Apple Watch makes it incredibly simple to customize and change up the display to match your current requirements.
3) It encourages mindfulness
The Apple Watch comes preloaded with a number of apps, but my favorite is the “Breathe” app. I believe in the importance of practicing mindfulness and bringing attention to our breath (a term you will be familiar with if you practice yoga.)
The Breathe app on the Apple Watch is set to prompt you to begin a breathing session every five hours (but you can start a session whenever you like.) Through a series of gentle vibrations and a calming circular shaped graphic, the Breathe app guides you through a series of deep breathing while tracking your heart rate.
You can set your Breathe session for one minute or five minutes. I try to get in at least 3 or 4 five minute Breathe sessions every day.
4) It allows safer driving
I love the map feature on my iPhone but I’m very mindful of driving safety, and constantly looking down at the map on my iPhone screen just seems very unsafe. A great feature of the Apple Watch is that it syncs with the maps on your iPhone and the directions appear on the watch face. Additionally, it gives a small vibration and a clicking sound when a turn is coming up.
I find this to be a lot safer than constantly looking down at my iPhone screen or even at a GPS screen.
5) It encourages you to stay active
In addition the Breathe app, the Apple Watch also comes preloaded with an activity tracker. The activity tracker keeps a record of your calories burned, minutes of brisk activity, and how many minutes you’ve stood up and moved per hour.
You can change your calorie goal manually, and you can also share your activity goals and accomplishments with friends, which helps to increase accountability and motivation.
Often it can be difficult to figure out how to find the time to workout, especially when you’re pulled in a million different directions, so the activity tracker gives a nice little boost of motivation.
After wearing my Apple Watch daily for a month, these are my five current favorite features. There are a ton more features that I can’t wait to explore, and I’ll probably write an update to this post as I discover them!
